Dubai Expo 2020 Highlights
UAE's proposed theme for Expo 2020 is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" Expo 2020 will provide a unique platform for the global community to come together and explore creative and pioneering solutions to the three subthemes which have been identified as key drivers of global development: Sustainability", "Mobility" and "Opportunity".
The country’s Expo will be a celebration of innovative partnerships for global progress The total investment in the infrastructures related to Expo 2020 is estimated at AED25 billion. Some of these facilities are permanent and will be utilized for other purposes after Expo 2020.
Dubai World Expo 2020 will generate around 277 thousand new job opportunities in Dubai over the next seven years. Each new job opportunity will sustain other 50 jobs in the region.
Expo 2020 is expected to attract over 25 million visitors, 70% of those are coming from abroad.
Approximately, one third of the world’s population are only four hours away from Dubai by air, and 66% of the world’s population can land in Dubai airport in 8 hours flights.
Expo 2020 will inject US$28.8 billion (more than AED 140 billion) in Dubai’s GDP. Expo 2020 will enhance Dubai’s trade and support its tourism development strategy targeting 20 million tourists and tripling tourism contribution in the emirate’s economy by 2020.
From the environmental aspects, the design of the exhibition centre is eco-friendly. Dubai Expo 2020 targets to produce 50% of the Expo’s energy requirements on site. 30% of the building materials used for the Expo will be made from recycled aggregate content.
Some of the facilities are multipurpose and will be re-used The proposed period for the exhibition is from October 2020 to April 2021, during that season of the year Dubai has nice weather and many other international events are usually held.
The first "International Exhibition" was held in London in the summer of 1851 under the name the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations or the Great Exhibition.
The exhibition is held every five years and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.
The previous session of the exhibition was held in Shanghai on 2010 and the next session will be held in Milan, Italy on 2015.
The exhibition accepts participations from government and private sectors in various fields.
From London in 1851 to Shanghai in 2010, heritage and legacy have underpinned the World Expo concept, and the tradition for invention, innovation and the creation of enduring technological, architectural and cultural footprints continues today.
