UAE taking lead for Mobile excellence
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the UAE winner of the UN-based World Summit Award, mobile edition (WSA mobile), a global initiative that selects and promotes the world's best in mobile content and innovative applications. The Dubai Police App was selected amid 480 submissions from over 100 countries, ranking into the world's top 40 mobile content brilliance. Unveiling mobile innovation efforts in the mGovernment & Participation category, the Dubai Police App will be honoured In front of UN representatives, ICT ministries and the private sector, at the WSA mobile Global Congress in Abu Dhabi, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC) from 1st - 3rd February, 2015.
As the 'National Expert' of the United Arab Emirates the TRA, which has been contributing to the Awards for the past three years, was responsible for nominating candidates at the eight WSA mobile categories. A team of experts from smart government entities in the UAE was formed, and a total of 156 applications were evaluated from 18th - 20th May, 2014 at the Centre of Digital Innovation (CoDI).
"The TRA is delighted to witness the UAE's most downloaded application, Dubai Police App, be honoured for its innovativeness and efficiency. The success of the app in the mGovernment & Participation category, is a pivotal moment for the UAE as it transforms into a fully integrated smart government," said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA.
"In this special occasion, we must commend the efforts of the Dubai Police in supporting the UAE's smart government transition strategy on a federal level, allowing them to implement the directives of our wise leadership to achieve the national vision focused on attaining happiness, social welfare and prosperity," he added.
Commenting on the win, Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razouqi, General Director of Smart Services at Dubai Police said, "We would like to start by expressing our deep pride and gratitude for winning this distinctive award, which is witnessing a high degree of competition between several government entities, throughout the UAE. We want to emphasize that this victory was a result of accepting a serious strategy and adopting a clear course of action, specifically designed for the provision of services on mobile devices. This was in line with the vision of the UAE in achieving citizens' happiness and completing the journey of transition into a smart government by May 2015 with direct follow up from Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police Security of Dubai Police , and Major General Khamis Mattar, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police ."
The evaluation was based on selecting UAE mobile inventions that best fit the WSA mobile criteria and categories. Dubai Police App was selected for mGoverment & Participation, Environment agency AD (EAD) for mEnvironment & Health, Abnai for mLearning & Education, Smart Aqdar City for mEntertainment & Lifestyle, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Cultural Authority for mTourism & Culture, Emarat Al Youm for mMedia & News, and finally Abu Dhabi Taxi for the mBusiness & Commerce category
The WSA-mobile winners were selected by a Jury of international ICT experts in two democratic rounds. Each UN Member State was eligible to nominate one product per category for the World Summit Award. This way any nomination results from a national pre-selection prior to the international WSA Jury.
Hosted by (ADSIC), Abu Dhabi will turn into "a global panopticum of smart minds doing smart things". The WSA mobile Global Congress will deliver a best practice exhibition of the top digital m-Content projects worldwide. The event's agenda will be a compilation of interaction and inspiration, assembling workshops, business blind-dates and infamous keynotes, bringing together UN and governmental representatives, private sectors and innovators.
