What Can You Do To Use Less Water?
Just by following these simple tips, you can cut your household’s water use dramatically. Take a look and see how easy it can be! Check out our water saving, money saving, planet saving ideas! FEEL THE POWER OF THE SHOWER! A quick shower uses around three times less water than a bath. It saves time too and it gets you just as clean BE SWITCHED ON AND SWITCH IT OFF! When you’re brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing vegetables or dishes, remember to switch the tap off when you’re not actually using the water. You’d be surprised how much it will save. BE CONSCIOUS ABOUT CAR CARE! Please don’t wash your car every day; it really isn’t necessary. If you wash it at home use a bucket, not a hose. Better still, take it to an automatic car wash, as it uses less water. WAIT BEFORE YOU WASH! Don’t use the washing machine or dishwasher until you have enough to load it to its capacity. FILL THE CUP, NOT THE KETTLE! If you’re only making one or two hot drinks, only boil that amount of water in the kettle. DON’T LEAVE LEAKS FOR WEEKS! Fix any leaking pipes and taps promptly, inside and outside the home. And if you ever spot a leak in the street, be a good citizen and report it. AND DON’T FORGET THE CHILDREN! Getting children involved is absolutely vital. Please help to promote water conservation among the young ones - talk to their school and suggest they participate in water conservation competitions. You’ll find lots more ideas on the Heroes schools programme website. GO NATIVE! It’s best to choose native plants as they need less water and do better in this climate. USE IT, DON’T LOSE IT! Think about how you could use water more consciously. For instance, you could wash your vegetables in a bowl, then use that water for the garden. GO EASY ON THE GREENS! It’s nice to have a lovely green garden, but keeping it green uses lots of water. So please adjust your sprinklers so you only water the lawn, only water your plants when you need to and only water them in the early morning or the evening.
