Art Dubai 2010
Over the last three years Art Dubai has created a defining platform for current art practice in the Middle East, setting the business of art within a context that is intelligent, stimulating and relevant. Earlier this year, Art Dubai’s third edition attracted an audience of over 14,000 visitors from across the Middle East, South Asia and beyond, including leading curators, museum directors, artists, 80 museum groups and over 300 international press. Working with universities across the UAE, current students and alumni have the opportunity of applying to join the Art Dubai team to experience a variety of working environments within the art world. Students will spend time with Art Dubai, working on all aspects of is planning and strategy such as event management, PR and marketing campaigns and design of the spaces. They will have the opportunity to work with other arts-related organisations such as the charity START that was formed at the fair in March and other arts organisations within the UAE such as local galleries, publications, radio stations and non-profit artist spaces. During Art Dubai they will actively be involved with international galleries and artists during set-up, the running of the fair and take down. Van Cleef & Arpels 2010 PROJECTS In 2010, Bidoun Projects becomes the curatorial partner for Art Dubai, programming a dynamic set of exhibitions, artists’ projects, talks, and video programmes, which are presented alongside and interact with the Global Art Forum and the gallery booths and presentations. Bidoun Projects aims to focus on commissioning and presenting new work by artists from the Middle East and its diaspora. The projects are especially conceived for the fair and its environs, and include a curated show; artists’ performative tours of the fair; commissioned, site-specific projects by artists based in the UAE and throughout the region; and a new version of the Bidoun Library, the ’pop up’ project space and resource room curated by artists that includes books, catalogues, music, film, and ephemera tracing art scenes and histories of the Middle East. The Art Park will, once again, host a series of informal talks and workshops, complementing presentations at the Global Art Forum, and include a comprehensive Video Bar, plus daily screenings of four curated film and video programmes, presented by Bidoun and guest curators and artists from the network.
