Something about Mehwash.
After many months of thinking how I could introduce myself without sounding as though I was blowing my own trumpet, I finally decided to keep it very simple and just provide the basics!
When I was a student at LSR at Delhi University, our college celebrated its Silver Jubilee. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India at that time and she was the chief guest at the special function held to celebrate the occasion. My friends and I tried to keep away from the crowd, preferring to observe everything as discreetly as we could. The next day, when I opened the newspaper, I saw a photograph of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, a friend and myself on the front page! So much for being unobtrusive and discreet!
That has been my philosophy of life. I prefer to be on the periphery, observing life from the outside. It’s not always easy because very often subjectivity interferes in the form of emotional attachments, family and friends. This is not to say that I do not like being involved in the lives of peopleā¦it’s just that I believe that it is important not to allow my values and beliefs to influence those of others around me. It does not imply apathy. I believe that I can sow the seed of a thought or value, but I must allow the other person to accept or reject it.
A University degree in Psychology, parenting two boys, teaching A Level Psychology and Sociology, completing 23 years of marriage, interacting with children, teenagers, young adults and parents and memories of being a child and student, myself, has equipped me with the skills to look at people and life from a different perspective. I can allow myself to introspect and when I do that, I often come up with answers to my own questions.
I’ve lived in the Middle East for many years now and this is home to me.
