Dubai is known throughout the world as a playground for the rich. Take one look at the place, and it’s not hard to see why. It is renowned as an international business centre, boasting some of the most incredible skyscrapers on earth and the world’s only seven star hotel. The glitz and glamour of Dubai has been drawing executives and holidaymakers alike for years. If you’re considering a trip to Dubai, here are a few things to think about…
Getting there. Browse the internet for cheap flights – there’s a wealth of good deals out there, as Dubai grows in popularity. For really cheap travel, try booking for the peak temperature season in July and August if you can stand the heat, as many can’t.
Staying there. Dubai is famous for its luxury hotels, so it’s not a cheap city to stay in. One way of keeping costs down is to steer clear of the pricier beach hotels. Instead, look for accommodation further inland, nearer the airport. You can still access the beach, without paying premium rates.
Having fun there. There’s so much to do in Dubai. My first recommendation would have to be taking a camel or a jeep out into the desert, followed by a Bedouin feast beneath the stars. The stars are breathtaking from here. Another great excursion is a yacht trip around Dubai’s most famous development,
The World – a man made archipelago in the shape of a miniature world map.
Eating there. Dubai is a fantastic food city, offering everything from Michelin starred fine dining to the humblest street food. Make sure you try the local culinary delights, especially shawarma, an Arab staple. And every Friday the city plays host to a ‘Champagne Brunch’, during which hundreds of restaurants and hotels offer free champagne and vast buffet lunches to any passers-by.
Going out there. As a conservative place, Dubai has quite strict licensing laws, so beware of illegal vendors. No shops or supermarkets are licensed to sell liqor, but most bars, hotels and restaurants do.
