Current Serie A leaders, AC Milan, landed at Expo 2020 Dubai on Tuesday (22 March) for a day of footballing activities that saw Head Coach Stefano Pioli and first-team players Brahim Díaz and Fikayo Tomori take charge of a children’s training session and host a live public Q&A session attended by hundreds of fans.
The trio passed on their expertise and skills during the training session for dozens of children Expo 2020 Dubai’s AC Milan Academy at the Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing Hub, before moving across the Expo site for an evening event at Festival Garden that featured the Q&A, fan giveaways and freestyle football performances.
The players appeared first, with midfielder Díaz, who made his international debut for Spain last year, and defender Tomori, an England international, discussing everything from AC Milan’s success this season so far and star teammate Zlatan Ibrahimović, to dressing room pranks and how much pasta they consume. Pioli then joined the pair onstage for a Q&A conducted in Italian.
Talking before the Q&A event about the visit to Expo 2020 Dubai, Fikayo Tomori said, "It's interesting to learn about all the things that are going on here. I love it. To be able to come and see it for ourselves. It was nice, obviously, to play with the kids today, which was fun and, yeah, obviously we’re just really happy to be here."
Tomori, who was also positive about Milan’s prospects for the remainder of the season, continued, "We're in a situation now where we can do something special. So, yeah, there's pressure, but I think that it's the kind of pressure that we enjoy, where we have to get results, we have to win Hopefully at the end of the season there is something special we can celebrate."
In September, AC Milan announced a partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai that saw the first World Expo in the Middle East become an Official Partner of the Rossoneri.
Tuesday’s event was AC Milan’s third visit to Expo 2020 Dubai. ‘The Future of Football, Its Social Role and the Importance of a New Generation of Sustainable Stadiums: A New Cathedral in the City of Milan’ session in February welcomed Ivan Gazidis, CEO, AC Milan, and Christopher Lee, Managing Director, Populous, architects of AC Milan’s new stadium, preceded by a watch party in November featuring an appearance from Milan legend Daniele Massaro.
