Baden-Wurttemberg Celebrates Honour Day At Expo 2020 Dubai
(26 January 2022)

Baden-Württemberg, a German state that has set up an independent pavilion in the Expo 2020 Dubai, celebrated Honour Day at its pavilion on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the state's Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, travelled to Dubai with a small delegation of representatives from Baden-Württemberg's business and political community to attend the ceremony.

The minister said, "Today's Honour Day offers us the great opportunity to put our federal state in the spotlight of the Expo public, an opportunity we want to harness to draw attention to our unique region and show the world what Baden-Württemberg has to offer.

"The fact that we have been given our own Honour Day, just like the national pavilions, underlines that Baden-Württemberg is seen as an equal among the many nations at this world expo," Hoffmeister-Kraut emphasised.

The Baden-Württemberg House has already received over 275,000 guests, she revealed. "The visitor numbers are something to be proud of. Our mixture of tradition and innovation and our numerous cultural and culinary highlights are well received by visitors," pointed out the minister.

Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Bauer, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO, expressed a similar view, "We hope, of course, that today's Honour Day will make Expo visitors curious about our federal state. With our presence here at Expo in Dubai, we want to raise our region's profile with its numerous SMEs, corporations, and world-class educational and research institutions."

The official ceremony took place in the afternoon at Al Wasl Plaza in the heart of Expo. The programme also featured artistic highlights from Baden-Württemberg with artists from SAP-Sinfonieorchester, Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and a team of dancers led by ballet choreographers Eric Gauthier.

About 57 official delegations with around 900 participants, including former German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerhard Müller, Emirati Minister of State for Food and Water Security Mariam al-Mheiri and Bavarian State Secretary Roland Weigert, have visited the Baden-Württemberg House so far.

Around 20 business events have already been held on-site by partners and external customers, with about 1,000 participants, said the press release.
