United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) biggest food distribution drive, 10 million meals', received a boost after India Gate, the brand owned by KRBL- the world’s largest rice miller, donated 1003 kg of rice as part of its commitment towards helping those affected by COVID-19.
The noble initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and his wife Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank, is aimed at cushioning families that have been hard hit by the pandemic.
The donation is expected to feed over 13,000 people. India Gates’ donation also coincides with Ramadan month wherein Zakaat is given for free distribution among the less fortunate in the society.
Speaking during the donation presentation, India Gate spokesperson, Priyanka Mittal, director, KRBL Limited, said: “We are honored to be part of 10 million meals initiative that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his wife. This donation reaffirms our support for those affected in our community. As a key player in the food industry, we understand that rice is a staple food in most households. It was only natural for us to partake in the cause that ensures even those that are facing challenges during this difficult time get to enjoy their favourite meals just like the rest of us.”
The initiative, which has already surpassed the 10 million target, demonstrates the social solidarity and cohesion in the UAE. This, according to Mittal, is an attribute that has made the campaign a great success.
“At a time like this that we are facing a global challenge, the residents of the UAE have come out in large numbers to support a worthy cause. Thanks to a wonderful initiative led by Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank, we got an opportunity to stand up and be counted when the community needed us most,” said Priyanka.
Besides the contribution, Priyanka also acknowledged and thanked all the India Gate employees that have worked tirelessly to keep the rice milling facilities running for the good of the people globally braving the India lockdown with strict hygiene protocols and safety measures.
Donations toward the initiative are still ongoing throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan under the supervision of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, in collaboration with the Social Solidarity Fund against Covid-19.
