DREI Organises 3 Innovation Camps
(12 March 2020)

Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI) held three innovation camps for three different parties over three consecutive days as part of its participation in the activities organised by Dubai Land Department (DLD) during innovation week within the UAE Innovation Month. These camps align with the framework of an integrated agenda set by DLD’s sectors to support the visions of the UAE’s wise leadership and prepare for the next 50 years.

The first day of these activities was devoted to DLD’s employees, and the second for DLD’s customers. The two camps for DLD’s employees and customers witnessed the discussion of DLD’s development plan to support its readiness for the next 50 years, while the third camp discussed research that works to serve the real estate environment in the future. The organisers of the three camps made sure to take into consideration the customers and participants’ notes to develop an integrated plan, which in turn contributes to supporting DLD’s strategy and its preparations for the next 50 years.

Hend Obaid Al Marri, CEO of DREI, commented: “The three camps were held under one slogan ‘Innovation in Preparation for the Next 50 Years,’ where we wanted to combine an important national event, Innovation Week, and a national strategy that will shape our future in half a century. This proactive planning helps us formulate a clear-cut agenda that would involve all parties in our operations and activities, including staff, academics, and customers who benefit from DLD’s services. The results have been fruitful, and we have collected several ideas that can be used to formulate, amend, and enrich our current and future programmes. This ensures that DLD, through its various sectors, efficiently participates in important national programmes and strategies, most prominently in preparing for the next 50 years.”

The third and last day was dedicated for academic institutions and researchers from universities and DREI to encourage studies and scientific papers, supported by forward-thinking, to build the future city and readiness for the coming 50 years.

The discussions and ideas revolved around setting policies in place for smart cities and self-transportations, fostering the pillars of building sustainable and environmentally-friendly cities as well as finding the right directives and efficiently applying them. Moreover, emphasis was placed on the importance of building and developing cities that are ideal to meet the expectations of their residents. The participants recommended the need to rely on technology to support building smarter cities that provide all services to different users regardless of their age or manner of business.

Al Marri added: “The innovation camp is one of DREI’s initiatives that aims to find an important base for developing real estate ideas and innovations, achieve sustainable growth and development in the real estate market, and enhance the methodology of innovation and continuous development, allowing the real estate sector to be a developed and pivotal sector in the Emirate’s local economy. It also aims to develop and improve services for all beneficiaries and workers, especially as innovation is the most important element to support the design of Dubai, the city of the future. Achieving this will require the involvement of thinkers, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and residents, all of whom contribute to building an infrastructure that supports a happy life, smart services, and urban planning, drawing on intellectual patterns to anticipate the future and ensure global excellence.”

The three camps this year are an extension of a continuous series of innovation camps organised by DREI last year that witnessed the participation of researchers, financial institutions, brokers, valuators, lawyers, and developers in the real estate market to overcome the challenges they face. The camps presented valuable solutions and documented the results of the sessions and proposals.
