In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enrich the emirate of Dubai culturally and intellectually, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) announced that it issued more than 30 publications in 2019. These were targeted at academicians and professionals, as well as researchers and intellectuals.
Dr. Ali Hassan Al Marzouqi, Director of the Research Department at IACAD, indicated that in all its publications, the department adhered to scientific and academic standards. IACAD worked with researchers who value scientific research as a key to advancement of nations. All these efforts are part of IACAD’s keenness to spread knowledge and culture.
Dr. Al Marzouqi said that the new publications from IACAD included ‘Estimating Prayer and Fasting Times for ISS Astronauts’ - the first of its kind in the world. The book explores the effects of science in space, and underscores IACAD’s role as a modern platform for Muslims around the world.
IACAD has a diverse list of publications, covering topics that address aspects of Islamic Sharia, history, Islamic economy and Arabic language. They are aimed at employing humanitarian and social sciences to serve specialised Islamic studies and to provide reliable information. The publications were aimed at various strata of society and included, a series on the study of jurisprudence of tolerance in Islam, as well as others about Islamic economy and its pillars. The publications were highly appreciated in scientific communities and academic institutions both inside and outside the country.
In scientific work targeting the youth and students, the department employed Arab art and literature for children when preparing the ‘Happy Learning’ series - a qualitative shift for IACAD’s publications. Last year, ‘Practicing Arabic Language’ book was published in conjunction with the World Arabic Language Day. The book aimed to enhance linguistic information in an interesting format. In the ‘Happy Learning’ series, a book titled ‘Family Diary in Ramadan’ was also published, which explained the jurisprudence of fasting and the provisions of Ramadan in a creative manner.
In line with the directives of the wise leadership of the UAE, the Research Department undertook a series of studies in jurisprudence of tolerance. The series comprises four parts and is a pioneer in scientific research on this subject, and addresses contemporary issues.
The department also prepared publications aimed at the youth and female categories. These were directed towards enhancing knowledge, spreading religious awareness, and instilling the right Islamic values. These included: ‘Sahaabiat in their Youth’, ‘Funerals Fatwas’ and scientific publications on Islamic economy, as well as the ‘Ramadan collection’, ‘Hajj collection’, and ‘Culture of Tolerance’.
The department also issues the official annual calendars for the emirate of Dubai, both Islamic and Gregorian. It also includes scientific and astronomical updates and environmental information.
