Dubai Airports today lauded the announcement of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the formation of the new Dubai Council and its role in furthering Dubai’s aspiration to become the best city in the world by providing a high quality of life for all its residents.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said that aviation infrastructure forms an essential part of the emirate’s planning for the next fifty years to help fuel economic expansion, social development and the continued emergence of Dubai as a leading global city. He pointed out that Dubai International (DXB) ranks as the number one airport for international passengers for the sixth year in a row.
Griffiths said: "The considerable achievements of Dubai’s aviation sector have been the direct result of the insight of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who was given responsibility for the aviation sector in the mid-1970s by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai at that time. Since then, Dubai’s aviation sector has undergone remarkable growth and development hand-in-hand with the ascension of Dubai as a city world-renowned for its importance as a centre for trade, commerce and tourism. This is all thanks to his vision, the Dubai government’s timely and considerable investments and the guidance and wise management of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum who was assigned to lead the aviation sector in Dubai in the mid-1980s and has developed a sector which now serves some 90 million passengers annually.”
Griffiths added: "The declaration of the Fifty-Year Charter, the formation of the new Dubai Council and the assignment of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed to supervise the management of aviation and other vital sectors of the Dubai economy will become a road map for us to move forward and build on the sector’s already significant achievements."
