Canadian Specialist Hospital, have invested in a novel technology that will help reduce the anxiety levels for the patients of their cardiology department. CSH teamed up with Medify, a dutch company that has developed this unique concept that was rolled out to its patients a few weeks ago. The technology would be extremely helpful in improving patient knowledge, compliance, quality consultation interactions and significantly reduce registration period and anxiety levels through their ‘care path’.
“Whenever patients came to us with a heart condition, they also came with a lot of questions about their medical procedures. We observed that our doctors did spend a lot of time educating them about these procedures and this delayed the overall process for the patient to a certain extent. Moreover, most of the patients that visit our hospital don’t necessarily have a healthcare background, so to provide them with all the information in simple layman terms was a challenge at times,” said Dr. Yashar Ali, CEO, Canadian Specialist Hospital.
Every patient who has booked an appointment with a cardiologist in the hospital will receive a confirmation sms with a link to the module. On clicking the link, they would be redirected to an online page which will provide them with a virtual tour of the hospital and what they are required to do once they reach the hospital. The module will also ask them to fill in their medical history so that the doctor has their relevant information before the consultation even begins. Depending on the responses, the dashboard recognizes high risk patients so that immediate action can be taken.
For patients booked for a procedure, the module provides them with a detailed 3D visual representation of the procedure they are about to undergo along with comprehensive details about what to expect in terms of stay and clothing, food and drug interactions, precautions and other medical information. The whole platform then follows up with a brief but articulate feedback mechanism that helps improve the module continuously.
“It is very important for the patient to be aware and about the procedure they are to undergo and immensely helps us to procure an informed consent. The technology provides them with a certain sense of security and definitely reduces anxiety. Another advantage of this technology is that the patients can read up at the comfort of their home and allows them ask specific questions that they may have. There walkthroughs can be especially helpful to patients who aren’t medically literate and are hesitant in asking questions to their doctor”, added Dr Yasir Parvez, Interventional Cardiologist, Canadian Specialist Hospital.
“Medify helps hospitals to improve quality and lower costs with process innovation through digital communication. Back in the Netherlands, we have found that nearly 30% of the population has low medical literacy. Furthermore, it is scientifically proven that 1-30% of the patients are able to digest information from their medical practitioner. We work very closely with all the departments within the hospital to develop visual aids that can bring those numbers up to 90% on repetitive information dissemination,” mentioned Peter Krol, COO, Medify.
“Patient experience is a hot topic in the UAE. We believe digital patient communication should be an integral part of the daily operations in order to benefit from it. Our software framework is able to present interactive visual information in 3D interactively to patients on any device. We offer durable quality improvements against lower cost, today also commonly referred to as value-based healthcare,” added Peter.
