Emirates Hospital - Jumeirah was recently awarded the Collaboration of Organised and Recognised Endoscopy units (CORE) certificate by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO). Only five hospitals in the entire region received this recognition.
Through this recognition WEO is looking at reaching out to endoscopy units worldwide to improve the quality of practice of endoscopy. The certification is awarded to endoscopy departments worldwide and recognises units performing Gastro-Intestinal endoscopy whilst adhering to the minimum criteria for endoscopy safety, covering the standards of hygiene, disinfection and the necessary training for any practice of endoscopy.

The certification is valid for a year from the date of its issuance and can be renewed annually. Their endoscopy suite is designed to meet the fundamental qualities of design and safety ensuring a safe and accurate diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. A dedicated pre-procedure ensures a patient’s privacy is maintained at any given time. The disinfection area in the department is designed to directly receive used instruments from the procedure rooms, thus minimising the risk of contamination. The sterilized endoscopies are then stored in a professional storage cupboard ensuring appropriate isolation and ventilation.
Equipped with state-of-the-art endoscopes, experts at the endoscopy department adapt the latest practices to improve diagnostic yield, including using high definition scopes for gastrointestinal procedures that allow extremely clear views and improved detection of abnormal growth in the esophagus, stomach and colon.
Some of the other endoscopy centers worldwide that received the CORE certification include France, Myanmar, Dominican Republic and China.
