The UAE government has announced the launch of the "Diploma in the Art of Writing Public Policies and Legislations".
The diploma entails training and interactive programmes for policy makers in UAE federal authorities. It aims to ensure that policies formulated by authorities provide the maximum positive impact on people’s everyday life.
Thirty government policymakers attended the first phase of the diploma, with plans to target over 100 participants in future stages. The diploma is organised by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, in cooperation with the American University of Sharjah.
Abdulla Bintouq, Secretary-General of the UAE Cabinet, asserted that the Cabinet adopts legislation and policies according to best practices, adding that this diploma will ensure that all submitted policies are subject to thorough review by the participants in the programme.
The training programme is the first of its kind in the UAE, it provides participants with an accredited diploma in policymaking, and ensures a positive impact of policy through a number tools to measure and evaluate the impact of policies, as well as introduce participants to the role of communications in policymaking.
Dr. Ilias Visvikis, Professor of Finance and Director of Executive Education at American University of Sharjah, said the diploma will give UAE government policy makers the knowledge, skills and self-assurance to foster new ways of thinking in policy design and policy conversion into legislation.
During the first stage of the programme, participants were introduced to the concept of agile government, how to define policy objectives, and how to employ communications tool to disseminate the policy to the larger public, among other essential policymaking tools.
The next stages will include specialised lectures from the American University of Sharjah's teaching staff and international experts from different sectors.
