The award, which was initiated last year by the India Club Chairman, Mr. Vasu Shroff, recognizes the contribution of long term residents of Dubai in their respective areas of expertise and in serving the community. In this second year of the awards, the Trophy was presented to six individuals who have made a significant impact on the social, business, educational and social life in Dubai.
McLoughlin was honoured for his remarkable achievements and leadership skills demonstrated during his distinguished career with Dubai Duty Free, which began 35 years ago. The operation, which is the single largest airport retailer in the world, recorded sales of US$2.015 billion in 2018.
On receiving his award, McLoughlin said, “I am honored to be recognised by such a prestigious institution as the India Club Dubai which was founded in 1964 and my thanks to Mr. Vasu Shroff for instigating this award. India is a very important market for Dubai Duty Free in terms of our business. In terms of our manpower, we currently employ 953 Indian nationals, which represents almost 16% of our staff, many of whom have been with us for a very long time. In fact 20 of the original 100 pioneers who started with us in 1983 are still with our company, and I think that is terrific.”
“I congratulate my fellow recipients and I dedicate this to our Chairman, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, to my wife and family, and to the wonderful team of employees at Dubai Duty Free.”
The awards were attended by H.E. Vipul, Consul General of India to Dubai and many well-known members of the Indian business community.
McLoughlin was accompanied by his wife Breeda, his son Niall and wife Sherly as well as Jihad and Sinead El Sibai, Senior Vice President – Marketing, Dubai Duty Free.
