Dubai Witnesses The Start Of The Seventh And Final Stage Of The UAE Hackathon 2019

The UAE Hackathon 2019 ‘Data for Happiness and Well-being’ concluded its third week successfully , after passing through six stations; Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah. Today, the Hackathon has entered its last station in Dubai, Zayed University.

Over the past three weeks, the UAE has witnessed a creative movement on data and analytics, with the participation of interested students, professionals, employees, entrepreneurs, and others who have tried to use available data to find solutions to important issues such as protection from fire, safety and security, education, employment opportunities, wellbeing and others.

H.E. Salem Al Housani, Acting Deputy Director General for information & eGovernment Sector, commented: ‘We are proud of the results achieved by the Hachkathon over the last six weeks. We have seen the strong desire of the participants to develop a vision for a happier society, through the great demand and willingness to use data to develop plans, projects and ideas that contribute to the happiness of all citizens and residents. The number of participating teams in the UAE Hackathon are 29 teams in Abu Dhabi, 27 teams in Sharjah, 25 teams in Ajman, 29 teams in Umm Al Quwain, 30 teams in Ras Al Khaimah and 62 teams in Fujairah. The number of teams participating in Dubai's Hackathon is expected to exceed 65.’

H.E. AL Housani highlighted the achievement of UAE Hackathon 2019 objective in attracting younger age groups. He said: ‘Among the most important characteristics of the UAE Hackathon 2019 is the participation of younger age groups. We are proud of the participation of students from middle and high school in the UAE Hackathon 2019, which indicates that we are on the right track to build a generation capable of accommodating the requirements of the future, dealing with available resources, and using them to build the country and achieve its goals. Our children today are the foundation on which we build our future, and the stronger the foundation, the more beautiful and successful the future will be.’

H.E. Al Housani praised the atmosphere in the UAE Hackathon 2019, he said: ‘We are pleased to ensure that the members of the UAE community are aware of the data importance as the oil of the future, and their ability to deal with and analyze them to produce results that have significant impact in accelerating the process of development and reaching the goals of our beloved country. We have been very excited with Umm Al Quwain youth’s participation in Umm Al Quwain’s first Hackathon experience. We were impressed by their desire to serve their community based on advanced science, future foresight and data analytics. We were also pleased with the tremendous success of Fujairah Hackathon, through the great participation of students and youth in the emirate, reflecting the increased awareness of data importance.’

The UAE Hackathon aims to motivate all those interested in data analysis to find solutions to the challenges of the Hackathon in each emirate. The Dubai Hackathon is expected to be highly popular given the high demand in the previous hackathons in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

The winning teams of the UAE Hackathon 2019 as well as the winners of the best media coverage of the Hackathon will be announced at the closing ceremony held on March 3rd , in conjunction with the International Open Data Day. The winning team, as well as the top three winners in each emirate, and the winners of the Hackathon Best Media Coverage Award will be honored during the ceremony.
