A large number of Dubai-based students from over 50 countries today observed the UAE National Sports Day.
Hosted by Knowledge and Human Development Authority, KHDA, in partnership with Global Village, a carnival was organised to mark the day and saw the participation of more than 1800 students from different schools in a variety of sports.
Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of KHDA said, "We celebrate different occasions throughout the year and these special days bring us together. The day promotes sportsmanship and we are fortunate to see different games played by people from different countries – driving a message of tolerance and diversity through sports and games."
A special ‘Zayed Torch’ honoured UAE’s founding father as students paraded across different pavilions and took part in games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Hula Hoops, Tug of War, Haft Sang and other activities.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council said, "These initiatives are important in our effort to promote active living and we want to spread positivity and happiness. Such events motivate people to come together and enjoy with each others as we collaborate, experience and appreciate new activities around Dubai."
The sports carnival kicked off from the Global Village Cultural Gate, with a special student band welcoming students and teachers to the activities. Students toured key pavilions across the Global Village and took part in activities.
