Installation Of 867 Solar Panels On The Employees’ Multilevel Car Park At The Headquarters
(23 January 2019)

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the installation of solar panels on the roof of employees’ multistorey car park at its headquarters in Umm Ramool, in collaboration with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE). The step is part of RTA’s efforts to promote the use of clean & sustainable energy across various facilities and respond to Dubai Government’s initiative in this regard.

“RTA has installed 867 solar panels above the multistorey car park at headquarters. Each panel has a capacity of 330 watts, and the overall production amounts to 286.11 KW. The system is linked to the main power grid of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). The production of renewable energy is expected to be in excess of 443 kW/h, which will cut carbon emissions associated with the conventional power generation,” said Abdul Rahman Al Janahi, Director of RTA’s Buildings & Facilities.

This vital project is characterised by low carbon emissions amounting to 192 tons per annum, which saves about 5% of the monthly electricity consumption bill. The project is part of a 20-year agreement with the DCCE to supply the building with clean energy, which is in line with Shams Dubai.

“The Project is also part of RTA’s strategic plan aligned with the Dubai Government’s initiative themed (Green Economy for Sustainable Development). The initiative has six pillars: Green Energy, Government Policies, Green City, Tackling Climate Change, Technology and Green Technology. The Green Economy concept has become a reality featuring in RTA’s agenda for buildings, facilities and services to the public. RTA is the first government entity to endorse a plan for preparing and implementing a plan for the governance of the Green Economy,” added Al Janahi.
