With an aim to foster the cultural relationship between the UAE and France, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture); the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts, heritage, and literature, and the Institut Français in the UAE, cultural department of the French Embassy in the UAE, announced today the 2019 edition of the ‘Night of Ideas’, themed ‘Facing Our Time’, at the Etihad Museum.
‘Night of Ideas’ is a worldwide event initiated by Institut Français in Paris, and the local edition of this event will be held by Dubai Culture and the French Institute in the UAE. With a focus on museums and new technology, the event will host live presentations on the use of technology in museums and showcase how it plays a leading role in transforming and revolutionizing audience’s experiences. In a panel discussion, the event will engage museum directors, thought leaders, artists, and give the participants and audience a chance to explore how technology is changing the cultural venues around the world and how cultural institutions are preparing for this change.
Industry professionals, namely Dr. Noah Raford, Chief Operating Officer at the Dubai Future Foundation; Hani Asfour, Dean at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation; Roei Amit, Head of Digital and Multimedia at RMN-Grand Palais (France); and Lana Shamma, Programmes Manager at Art Jameel, will explore the integration of new technology in museums and its effects on traditional showcase and curation of museums during this panel discussion.
Commenting on the event, HE Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General at Dubai Culture, said, “We are happy to partner with the Institut Français in the UAE to organise the ‘Night of Ideas’ and support the Emirati-French cultural dialogue with an aim to enhance the UAE Soft Power Strategy which was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We believe that with the participation of eminent thinkers and renowned professionals in the field of art and culture, the event will generate creative ideas that will help achieve broader objectives for all culture enthusiasts.”
He added, “By organising this event, Dubai Culture aims to position Dubai as a global cultural destination in line with the national strategies and Dubai Plan 2021 highlighting Dubai’s strong social fabric, which in turn stems from the fact that the Emirate attracts millions of visitors and residents from all over the world. The topic of the event ‘Museums and new technology’, is in line with Dubai’s vision to promote culture along with new technology and integrate both in daily lives thereby creating a conducive environment for happiness and growth of the community. Etihad Museum is an ideal destination for this event because it upholds the importance of preserving the cultural heritage in modern times, by using new technology.”
