Hala China welcomes month-long Chinese New Year celebrations with a traditional gala dinner
(29 January 2019)

Hala China, a joint initiative by Meraas and Dubai Holding, hosted a gala VIP dinner curated by the China Cuisine Association at Bvlgari Resort Dubai. The dinner was organised in collaboration with the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China. The evening heralded the launch of month-long festivities to mark Chinese New Year that falls on 5 February 2019.

Hala China’s Mohammad Saeed Al Marzouki welcomed the guests and highlighted that Dubai is set to witness the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations outside China. He explained that the festivities will extend beyond two nations and cultures, and aims to include Dubai’s global audience.

Addressing the gathering at the gala dinner, Her Excellency Tan Li, Acting Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai, expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the Hala China initiative. Her Excellency highlighted the strengthening social ties between China and the UAE, and identified Dubai as an important partner of the Belt and Road initiative due to its status as a regional hub for economy, trade, finance, tourism and logistics.

The dinner showcased the timeless rituals of China’s tea culture to the VIP guests from the UAE. The special invitees also witnessed first-hand the renowned Chinese cooking techniques used in making pastries, carving fruits and preparing delicious snacks. In addition, the China Cuisine Association hosted a live cooking demonstration to whet the appetites of the guests.

Set up in traditional Chinese style, the gala dinner served to foster a deeper understanding of China’s rich and globally recognised culinary heritage while strengthening the bonds of friendship between the UAE and China. The event marked another milestone for Hala China, an initiative that explores opportunities to facilitate economic development in Dubai and China through tourism, trade and investment.
