The second annual meeting of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists kicks off on Monday with more than 150 scientists and researchers in attendance from throughout the world.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, the meeting is set to include several workshops bringing together experts in various fields to explore the challenges facing the scientific community, and proactively propose solutions to overcome them. Attendees will also outline frameworks and action plans to steer scientific output towards contributing to sustainable development projects, as well as to develop vital sectors, boost their competitiveness, and enhance skills among the youth.
The meeting’s agenda also includes honouring the winners of the second edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence, which seeks to recognise outstanding scientists and researchers for their achievements and contributions in various fields. The award represents the highest Emirati scientific honour, which highlights scholars and their achievements, and enhancing their status in the community.
Sarah bint Youssef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, asserted that the second annual meeting of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists embodies the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to broaden the impact and contribution of scientific input in the overall sustainable development process, in addition to developing skills among young Emiratis and engaging scientists in creating solutions for future challenges.
Al Amiri went on to note that the results of the first annual meeting had led to the launch of several initiatives that boost the UAE’s status on the global scientific research map. Most notable among these initiatives is the Mohammed bin Rashid Medal for Scientific Excellence, which seeks to honour scientists from around the world who have had outstanding achievements, in addition to the UAE OpenLabs Platform for Advanced Scientific Research, which seeks to transform the UAE into an integrated laboratory, as well as the National Advanced Sciences Agenda, which sets the priorities for applied research in the country.
Members of the Mohammed bin Rashid Academy of Scientists comprise experts in a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, electronic engineering, chemical engineering, genomics, mechanical engineering, aviation engineering, physics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, materials science, food security, water technology, biology and genetics, and neurology, among many other scientific fields.
