On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, which is observed annually on 26 April, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has emphasised its commitment to protecting Intellectual Property (IP) rights, which have a key role in encouraging creativity and innovation as well as stimulating economic growth and knowledge development.
“We have a clear IP Policy, in accordance with international best practices, to enhance DEWA’s achievements in innovation, research and development, and protect the inventions, innovations, designs, and service models developed in DEWA. We recognise and reward employees for their creativity and achievements, and patent their inventions to protect their rights. DEWA is also committed to respecting the IP rights of other organisations and companies in line with the laws and regulations of the UAE, which is leading the region in the efficiency of the IP system,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA is a member of many international associations concerned with IP rights protection, and is committed to keeping pace with developments in this regard. This encourages creativity and innovation, promotes research and development efforts, and stimulates economic growth and knowledge development. DEWA is the first government organisation in Dubai to implement an inventor remuneration scheme aligned with international best practices and UAE laws.
Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA, said that a number of DEWA’s innovations received international patents, noting that DEWA promotes awareness about IP rights among all stakeholders, and encourages employees to innovate and develop modern systems that address work requirements.
