The Belgium Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will draw on renewable resources to feed its energy needs, smart technologies to feed its plants and the country’s world-class cuisine to feed its guests.
Covered in lush greenery, the ark-inspired building in Expo 2020’s Mobility District is designed to produce more energy than it consumes, and will showcase Belgian creativity and hospitality on a global stage.
Visitors to the pavilion will have the opportunity to interact with Belgian innovations while treating themselves to some of the nation’s tastiest culinary specialties – including its world-famous fries, known as frietjes.
Spanning multiple levels, the ‘green ark’ will use renewable energy and bio-sourced materials to bring to life its ‘Smart and Green Belgium 2050’ theme.
Hanging gardens and a manmade oasis of 10,000 plants will help to cool the structure’s interiors by up to five degrees Centigrade and absorb approximately 35 tonnes of carbon dioxide during the six months of the World Expo.
The pavilion will also contain an exhibition trail, a business centre, souvenir shops and a traditional brasserie and terrace.
To date, 190 nations have confirmed their participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. Organisers expect to record 25 million visits between 20 October, 2020 and 10 April, 2021.
