The UAE Internal Auditors Association (UAE-IAA) has recorded a remarkable growth in the participation of Emiratis in the internal auditing sectors through its HASAAD programme, which was launched with the aim of providing training in the field of internal auditing.
The UAE’s internal auditors professional body has launched the 8th cycle of the programme, which will run from October 14 to December 20 in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, with the participation of a number of new internal auditors from across different sectors.
The UAE-IAA Chairman Abdulqader Obaid Ali said: “Our strategy is focused on enhancing the role of Emiratis in the internal auditing profession due to its importance in supporting the national economy and ensuring the success of institutions.”
He added, “The UAE-IAA aims to double the current number of Emirati internal auditors in the public and private sectors by 2021, with a view to cope with UAE Vision 2021 aiming to shift to knowledge-based economy with the leadership of Emirati nationals equipped with knowledge and innovation skills.”
HASAAD, since its inception in 2015, has contributed to the graduation of over 60 Emirati nationals, who are currently occupying senior positions in various public and private sector institutions.
HASAAD, a training and development programme, is aimed at young UAE National graduates to provide them with a wealth of knowledge in internal audit. It is aligned with ABSHER, an initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
The UAE-IAA was set up in July 1995 as a non-profit organisation along the lines of its parent body with the support and co-operation of the Emirates Group, Dubai Economic Department, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Al Futtaim Group, Emirates Bank and Dubai Aluminium Company (DUBAL). In June 2006, it sought and gained approval to become the official IIA affiliate in the UAE
Licensed in 2008 by the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs, it launched HASAAD initiative at the 16th Annual Regional Audit Conference. The programme is the first of its kind in the world focusing on Internal Audit fundamentals and practices, development of individuals' skills and knowledge dealing with audited organizations, and enlightening those organizations of the audited elements. Its vision is to become an Internal Audit Training academy for Emiratis in UAE through enhancing their expertise, supporting their career, and preparing them to handle more duties within their respective organizations in the UAE.
The program is designed to impart technical training on 15 major topics related to internal audit , to develop overall soft skills of individuals , share real life scenarios and challenges in the field of internal audit and train them for Certified Internal Auditor qualification. It is a consolidated program for three months and has numerous benefits like offering better job opportunities, increasing the number of UAE Nationals in private sector and increasing efficiency of UAE Nationals to work in Internal Audit. The programme was developed to meet the need of institutions working in this sector and has been designed by more than 20 internal auditor and CEO combining their experiences and ideas in line with the internal audit departments. Of the 7,000 Internal Auditors (IA) in the region, 45 per cent are in the UAE of whom 22 per cent are Emirati.
