The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, HIPA, has concluded the August edition of the Instagram Photo Contest which was themed ‘My Idol’.
A total of five winners were announced for the competition which received submissions under the hashtag #HIPAContest_MyIdol. The contest winners hailed from; Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq and Saudi Arabia respectively. The ‘People’s Choice Award’ winner for August will also receive a brand new Sony Alpha a6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera, presented by Sony Middle East.
HIPA Secretary-General, Ali bin Thalith said, "Most of us have at some stage in our lives had a person that we have looked up to and respected. These revered people can have a profound effect on our path in life and hence become unforgettable figures and idols. We wished to test our photographic community in the month of August to document the special moments between people and their idols; an interesting concept that was likely to produce a plethora of stunning photographs. The many stunning submissions were whittled down to our five talented winners, who I would like to congratulate and thank for their superb efforts. "
Winner of the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the month of August was Kanal Budiarto @kanalbudiarto from Indonesia and he said, "In late December 2016, I visited a small village in Central Java named Senenan. I noticed a man crafting wood with a child playing next to him, feeling curious I walked over and began speaking to the gentleman. In the middle of our conversation, the child in the photograph pulled out a toy camera and pretended to be photographing us. At that very moment, I decided to do the exact same thing to him and his father which produced the winning photograph. For me, photography isn’t simply about the aesthetic value of the image but also the inspirational value it can offer society, and I hope I can be a more impactful photographer in the coming years. I would like to thank HIPA for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ and hope to be a winner in future editions."
