This new initiative represents a continuation of the various humanitarian aid projects launched in the past 17 years, to ease the suffering of over ten million children and elderly people through the world’s largest network of mobile clinics and field hospitals.

The virtual city is also a response to the 'Thank you, Mohamed bin Zayed' initiative, launched by the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which aims to promote projects and programmes to honour and thank His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and coincides with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declaring 2018 as the Year of Zayed.

Emirati cardiac surgeon, Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative and President of UAE Doctors, stated that the virtual city is part of the UAE Programme for Innovation in Humanitarian Work, was launched to create a generation of innovative youth to work in the development aid sector, across various fields.
