Saeed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA receives high-level delegation from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce
(29 March 2016)

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received a high-level delegation from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The delegation was led by Fritz Horst Melsheimer, President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Hans-Jorg Schmidt-Trenz, CEO of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The delegation visited to participate in the 5th Dubai Hamburg Business Forum. The delegation also visited DEWA to learn more about its successful experiences, skills, international practices, and smart initiatives, launched to achieve the Smart Dubai initiative by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest, happiest, and most innovative city in the world by 2017.

Al Tayer welcomed the delegation, highlighting DEWA’s commitment towards benchmarking, and exchanging information, skills, and the practises of pioneering government organisations from around the world.

“DEWA has recently launched three strategic initiatives including Shams Dubai, to connect solar energy to buildings, the smart Applications initiative through smart meters and Green Chargers, and establishing the infrastructure to build electric vehicle charging stations. To ensure that the Shams Dubai initiative is a success, DEWA is working with its partner organisations to install photovoltaic panels. The initiative is part of a wider environmental approach, which falls in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

In light of the Smart Applications initiative through smart meters, DEWA has developed a comprehensive strategy to install meters within electricity and water networks across the Emirate. The meters adopt advanced features via smart applications, monitoring and controlling consumption and connection speed, in addition to other innovative features that promote a smart and green lifestyle,” said Al Tayer.

“In cooperation with stakeholders, DEWA has built 100 electric vehicle charging stations across Dubai as a test-phase for this new technology, to measure the level of customer satisfaction, and understand ways of developing the service,” added Al Tayer.

At the end of their visit, the delegation commended DEWA’s efforts to diversifying Dubai’s energy mix, enhancing solar technology, and developing Dubai’s leading position to achieve the highest criteria of power efficiency, and increase the contribution of renewable energy to the overall energy mix.

The Dubai Hamburg Business Forum was organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), in cooperation with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The forum aims to open up new horizons for fruitful cooperation and joint ventures in four important sectors that interest the business communities in Dubai and in Hamburg. The forum highlights Public Sector Solutions for Smart Urban Living, Logistics, Health, and Energy.
