AED 8.4 Billion Dubai Trade with South Africa in 2015
(24 April 2016)

HE Manabile Shogole, Consul-General of the Republic of South Africa has commended Dubai Customs efforts in developing Customs work and hailed the distinguished services it provides for traders and investors from across the world, which reflected upon the South African business community in Dubai.

HE Manabile Shogole also acknowledged DC’s role in increasing the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries and the rest of the world alike; while attributing this progression to Dubai’s strategic position as a trading gateway between the east and the west.

These remarks came during the South-African official’s visit to Dubai Customs, where he was greeted by HE Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director Dubai Customs, Saeed Al Tayer, Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division, and Faisal Issa Lutfi, CEO of Dubai Customs World and External Relations Department Director at Dubai Customs.

Welcoming the Consul-General of the Republic of South Africa, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih reaffirmed DC’s sustained approach in bolstering ties with business councils and diplomatic corps. He also reiterated the Department’s commitment to delivering the best services for the good and wellbeing of business communities based in Dubai by utilizing innovation and creativity in all aspects of Customs work.

During the meeting, both parties discussed means and areas of further Customs cooperation. DC Director asserted that South Africa is conceived as a key strategic partner of Dubai in the African arena, with bilateral trade totalling AED 8.39 billion in 2015 to which imports contributed AED 5.91 billon, exports AED 567 million and re-exports AED 1.92 billion.

“We are pleased to receive South Africa’s consul-general, with whom we explored the concerns and aspirations of South African traders and investors, whether those already existing or who seek to set up in Dubai, and how Dubai Customs can provide their business with the sought-after added value through easier, faster and cost-efficient Customs facilitations and services,” Faisal Issa Lutfi said.

He added that “Dubai Customs is a haven of world-class Customs experience and savoir-faire and our objective is to share this knowledge with brethren nations for the benefit of their own economies and the world trade at large.”

The organization of such regular visits of international diplomatic and consular missions to Dubai Customs aims to further position Dubai as a global hub of trade and business, by finding new ways of adding more growth to the industry, explained Issa Lutfi.
