Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the integrated free zone technology park, has kicked off an Emirati Tech Boot camp at its wholly owned Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Centre (Dtec), the largest incubational facility of its kind in the Middle East.
Commenting on the new initiative, Shahla Ahmed Abdul Razak, Deputy CEO of DSOA, said: “The Emirati Tech Bootcamp has been designed to empower UAE nationals of all ages who are interested in technology and entrepreneurship. Through the boot camp we aim to help and encourage our talented young people to unleash their creativity and take the first few steps to turn their ideas into real businesses through workshops hosted by industry experts.”
Shahla added: “We are confident that the boot camp through its four workshops will allow entrepreneurs to gain valuable advice, and learn the fundamentals that are required to develop their business propositions - thereby enabling them to play a major role in the growth of the technology sector in the MENA region.”
The Tech Boot Camp is free of charge to Emirati entrepreneurs and undergraduate students. Upon the completion of its four workshops, the boot camp will invite participants to present their business ideas for the chance of receiving funding from Dtec.
The first two workshops conducted recently at Dtec, highlighted the initial steps involved in launching a technology startup as well as the challenges faced by an entrepreneur in marketing a technology venture. The two additional workshops that are scheduled for May 11 and May 18 will cover topics focused on developing a tech product, shaping a legal framework for start-ups and funding a tech startup.
Each workshop session is followed by an Entrepreneurs Panel, where experienced entrepreneurs and Dtec based start-up founders share best practices and provide valuable advice to the workshop participants.
A wholly-owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large enterprises, medium and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.
