Dubai Customs Accolades Winners of Dubai Customs Awards for IPR Films Category

Dubai Customs (DC) has honoured the successful winners of its Film Awards for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), as part of Children’s International Film Festival (CIFF) 2016 which took place in Dubai from 28 April to 7 May, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development of the UAE. 

As a principal theme sponsor for this year’s CIFF, Dubai Customs was keen to assert the paramount importance of IP as a global cause and spread awareness about it among new generations, whom it truly regards as formidable catalysts for change. 

The Executive Director of Policies and Legislation Division of Dubai Customs, Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer, presented the winners of Dubai Customs Awards for IPR Films Category with their trophies. There were 21 films competing for the Award from different schools across the UAE. GEMS Jumeirah College won the Best Film Award for their “ Together for a Better Protection”, the Best Director Award went to Our Own High School, Dubai (Boys) for their film “Ouroboros”,  Our Own High School (Boys), Sharjah, won the Best Animation Award for their film “FrauDrug”, the Best Script Award was claimed by Emirates International School, Meadows, for their script “Protect Intellectual Property”, and the Best Actor Award went to Sachika parabhudesai from GEMS  Our Own English High School, Al Warqa (Girls), Dubai.

“We praise the winners of Dubai Customs Awards for IPR Films Category at the CIFF 2016. We are much delighted to join this great event which is conceived as a  vital platform for driving innovation and creativity within our dear offspring,” said Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer.

He further underscored that Dubai Customs adopts a sustainable approach towards intellectual property rights awareness, by launching the Annual IPR Awards competition in 2007 targeting schools and universities in a bid to spread the seeds of responsible awareness on counterfeit goods at the future generation level and the whole society alike, while introducing numerous initiatives and campaigning for this cause. 

Yusuf Ozair Mubarak, Director of IPR Department at Dubai Customs, said, “Dubai Customs spares no effort to reach out for children at schools in particular, catered along with a tailored bundle of initiatives and activities, including lectures, awareness sessions and advocacy at different locations. “ 

Ozair reiterated Dubai Customs efforts in seeking to engage the youngsters to become an integral component of the DC’s collective efforts in combating the global epidemic of fraudulence and counterfeiting, which is actuated via designated events like the CIFF which serves big in  mainstreaming our youngsters’  own creations, views and  concerns on this global matter.
