(15 May 2016)

Dubai Customs is hunting for highly skilled and qualified Emiratis to join its cosmopolitan staff, with more opportunities currently on offer at the UAE’s largest job fair.

As many as 128 Customs vacancies are open for nationals during the ongoing ‘Careers UAE 2016’ which started today and will run till May 18th, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at Dubai World Trade Center.

Under the motto ‘Dubai Customs .. A Creative Journey to Excellence’, DC is taking part in the 3-day nationwide career show via two stands, one at Hall 4 and the second  at Dubai Government Pavilion – in Hall 3.
Commenting on Dubai Customs’ robust participation in the fair, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Chairman and CEO of  DP World Group, said, “Careers UAE job fair effectively helps promote Dubai Customs’ Emiratization programme to a proven audience, being the leading recruitment event for UAE nationals who are looking for the next step in their career.

“Dubai Customs continues its strategic approach aimed at headhunting and recruiting highly-competent UAE nationals to be part of its workforce in all areas of Customs work.”

According to  Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, the organization is very committed to taking full advantage of such recruitment events, as they offer the perfect platform for UAE national job seekers and potential employers to network and discuss training and career opportunities.

“We are looking to bring Emiratization to 88% by the end of this year, with a 3% rise over last year’s percentage of 85%, the highest Emiratization rate amongst government departments to date. Nationals account for 100% of our inspection cadre, who make 46% of the 3000 employees working for Dubai Customs,” added Musabih.

Ahmed Obeid Al Falasi, Executive Director of Human Resources, Finance and Administration at Dubai Customs, noted, “We seek to fill some 128 vacancies in various Customs work fields. A variety of initiatives are launched with the same purpose of attracting and empowering the UAE workforce, such as Tomouh (Ambition), Tawteen (Emiratization) and Tafawoq (Exceling) initiatives.

Al Falasi further elaborated on the offered initiatives saying that Tomouh, which is launched in collaboration with local universities, is tailored towards attracting high school fresh graduates and academically outstanding university students, by providing them with an intern opportunity within a professional and challenging work environment across Dubai Customs’ business units. The participants in this program will have the opportunity to become part of Dubai Customs workforce in the nearby future. As for Tawteen initiative, it directly supports the government approach  towards attracting UAE talent to steer the reel of innovation and creativity nationwide.

Al Falasi underlined that Tafawoq initiative is designed for the good purpose of better honing  the capabilities and skills of Customs leaders and managers by means of in-depth academic and work-based programs in logistics and Customs. This is undertaken in collaboration with the University of Dubai through specialized Diploma and Bachelor’s programs in Supply Chain Management and Customs Work.
Khamis Al Muhairi, Recruitment Senior Manager at Dubai Customs HR Department, said Dubai Customs has a clear recruitment strategy. DC’s HR staff are present at both platforms attending to the job seekers and introducing them to vacancies available at Dubai Customs. Submitted applications are being dealt with instantly, with interviews taking place on the spot to assess candidates based on experience, academic credentials, competencies and personal attributes.

The candidate and their application file are then referred to an official at the vacancy requesting department for an interview, to see if they are good fits for the vacancies.

Successful applicants, Khamis Al Muhairi affirmed,  would receive job offers at the fair once proven suitable to assume the vacant roles.

All 128 job openings by Dubai Customs are posted on DC’s website during the fair days, for interested Emirati applicants to browse and consider.
