Dubai Culture Announces its Support for the Hatta Development Plan
(23 November 2016)
The authority to open Dubai Centre for Heritage Development and a permanent art gallery aiming to nurture Hatta artistic talent

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage announced its participation in the comprehensive Dhs1.3 billion Hatta Development Plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Authority announced that it is cooperating with several governmental organisations in the Emirate to create and activate a far-reaching strategy to develop Hatta across three principal areas: economy and services, sports and tourism, and culture and education. Dubai Culture will also open a new Dubai Centre for Heritage Development, which will be inaugurated during the UAE National Day celebrations, and will serve to provide an educational platform for UAE heritage through a number of dedicated traditional crafts workshops.

His Excellency, Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “At Dubai Culture we are proud to carry out the Directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and align our projects and initiatives with the Dubai Plan 2021 to help achieve the vision of a city of happy, creative and empowered people. Dubai Culture has long been committed to developing Hatta’s cultural scene through its Dubai Public Library, Hatta Heritage Festival, and Hatta Heritage Village initiatives.”

The Dubai Public Library in Hatta houses more than 63 thousand books, and offers several programmes and events tailored to all age groups, which are in line with the Year of Reading strategy.

The Authority will play a crucial role in the Hatta Heritage Festival, which be held over two months until 24th December. This festival will showcase Arab hospitality, and traditional Emirati arms, outfits and weddings.

Additionally, Dubai Culture manages Hatta Heritage Village, a project that was launched in 2001 which now includes 30 buildings over a 40 thousand square metre space. This location has become an important hub for many social and national events, as well as hosting a number of sporting championships.

A permanent art gallery will be inaugurated by the Authority to showcase Hatta talent, and will be open to tourists and the local Hatta community all year round. The gallery will provide programmes and workshops on arts, photography and Arabic calligraphy, enabling children and young adults to nurture their talent and to help strengthen their national identity.
