DEWA continues "Neighborhood Campaign" to increase community awareness on conservation & sustainability
(31 December 2016)

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has continued its Neighbourhood campaign by visiting 253 houses in Zabeel area with participation of 65 DEWA employees and 40 volunteers from Zayed University and the Higher Colleges of Technology, in addition to female students of the Community Development Centre. The campaign aims to raise awareness on conservation and protecting natural resources while adopting a sustainable lifestyle. This adheres to Dubai’s goal to enhance environmental sustainability.

“DEWA is keen on launching awareness programmes and innovative initiatives to encourage our people to adopt a positive lifestyle which, in turn, contributes to energy and water conservation. This is in implementation of the leading initiatives launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support sustainable development in Dubai. Also, this is aligned with the UAE Vision 2021 to establish the UAE as one of the best countries in the world, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai the preferred place to live, work and visit. DEWA has succeeded in achieving great results in respect of energy and water conservation during the last seven years. Savings reached 1.344 GW/h of electricity, 5.6 billion imperial gallons of water, and 715.000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The total amount of these savings is AED 841 million,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“Through the Neighbourhood campaign, we aim to enhance direct communication with the community, to spread the message of awareness. We have witnessed the campaign’s positive impacts on the ground, and how people interact with its activities. I would like to thank DEWA’s team for their enthusiasm in community work, and interacting with various segments of the community in a number of residential areas,” added Al Tayer.

As part of the Neighbourhood Campaign, DEWA coordinated with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, to give a presentation on religious culture, love for the UAE, protection of vital resources and responsibility to protect Islamic identity. The volunteers were accompanied by Dubai Police and DEWA cars. Residents welcomed the volunteers, praising DEWA’s efforts and commitment towards its social responsibility. Residents also commended the volunteers for their advice on conservation, and the protection of natural resources in the UAE.
