Dubai Chamber forum seeks to strengthen UAE-Latvia ties

Trade, tourism, transport and logistics highlighted as key areas of mutual cooperation


 

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the UAE-Latvia Business forum at its premises on Sunday, which focused on enhancing trade relations and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The forum was attended by a high-level delegation led by H.E. Raimonds Vējonis, President of Latvia, and the country’s deputy prime minister and economy minister, H.E. Arvils Aseradens.

During the event, H.E. Vējonis called on UAE-based businesses and investors to explore new opportunities within Latvia’s tourism, trade, business intelligence and logistics and transport sectors, and encouraged them to work towards fostering strategic partnerships with Latvian companies in these fields.

Addressing the forum, the Latvian president explained that his country serves as an important trade hub for foreign companies and investors traders that do business with promising markets in northern and central Europe. He explained that the UAE and Latvia share a common vision for the future, and stand committed to strengthening economic cooperation. He highlighted the importance of organising forums that bring business communities from both sides together to explore synergies and new avenues of cooperation.

Also attending the forum was H.E. Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, H.E. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, Andris Ozols, Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), UAE-based business leaders, and representatives from Latvia’s private sector.

In his welcome speech, H.E. Al Ghurair spoke about the importance of strengthening trade relations between the UAE and Latvia, stressing the commitment of Dubai Chamber to providing all facilities needed to promote and increase bilateral trade.

Dubai Chamber’s chairman explained that these forums offer an important platform to establish an open dialogue between the two countries, adding that the UAE’s strategic location and world-class logistics infrastructure stand to benefit Latvian companies and provide them access to new consumer markets in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. 

At the same time, H.E. Al Ghurair described Latvia as a dynamic economy with highly developed transport, tourism agriculture sectors, adding that UAE companies could benefit from these areas of expertise. 

Mr. Omar Khan, Director of International Offices, Dubai Chamber, presented an overview of Dubai’s economy during the forum, in addition to the wide range of value-adding services that the Chamber can offer Latvian companies that plan to enter the Dubai market. H.E. Aseradens delivered a welcome speech at the event, while Mr. Ozols spoke about Latvia’s business environment and investment climate.
