Jess Towl, a former pro triathlete and an in-demand crossfit coach, put her extensive experience to use, bagging the top honours at the XDubai Spartan Women's Sprint, the first ladies-only Spartan race in the Middle East and Africa region that was held at the Jebel Ali Race Course on December 16.
Organised by Spartan Arabia, in cooperation with Dubai Sports Council, the Sprint race attracted more than 1,000 participants, many of them Emiratis. Englishwoman Towl, 30, finished ahead of them all, completing the 5km and 20-obstacle course in 34 minutes and 09 seconds.
Amina Mhih, 34, came second in 37:59, while Ivana Kolaric, 32, was third in 41:07. The 45-year-old Essarokh Latifa (43:24) finished fourth, ahead of 26-year-old Elma Aquino (44:33).
"We are delighted with the participation of so many ladies, of different nationalities and age group, especially Emiratis," said Julia Al Jenabi, the Marketing Manager of Spartan Arabia. "This huge turnout will certainly act as an encouragement for us to organise more such events for ladies, thus providing them with an opportunity to showcase their talent and encourage them to embrace physical activity.
"Thanks to XDubai and the Dubai Sports Council for their continuous support, and thanks to Dubai Holding, Fitness First and all the sponsors for their contribution towards the success of this Race, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region.
