Chevron Readers’ Cup Winners Crowned at Emirates Airline Festival of Literature
(10 March 2017)
Annual Battle of the Books Comes to Decisive End

Avid readers battled it out at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature yesterday to be crowned reading champions. The Chevron Readers’ Cup wrapped up a successful sixth edition after the fiercely contested preliminary rounds saw more than 2000 students from schools around the GCC participating, before 16 teams reached the finals.

Held in Arabic and English, the competition is divided in two age groups - Primary and Secondary. Teams compete by answering questions from a syllabus of books by Festival authors. The winners received trophies and certificates.

After six years sponsoring the competition, the Chevron team, who are annually involved in delivering the competition, have come to look forward to the event. Christopher Bradley, Chevron’s Country Chairman for UAE, said: ‘The excitement this competition generates is fantastic. The students display an incredible enthusiasm for reading, which is precisely how we want to celebrate the UAE’s Month of Reading. An integral part of our company’s aims is to support education in communities where we operate, which also meets the Festival’s aim of encouraging a love of literature here in the UAE and this competition plays a huge part in achieving that goal. We wish all the winners the best and hope they continue on their reading journeys.’

The winners in the English Primary category were:

First: Deira International School – Beyond Books Team

Second: Deira International School – Dare to Dream Team
