Dubai Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has affirmed the Amazon acquisition of Souq.com reflects visionary foresight of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who launched Dubai Internet City in 1999 and adopted the e-commerce and online business legislation on 2002.
Sheikh Hamdan posted on his official twitter account: “The acquisition reiterates Dubai’s position as a regional and global hub for the world’s leading corporation.”
“We are happy that souq.com is a success story born in Dubai,” Sheikh Hamdan added stressing that Dubai will continue to build partnerships with businesses whose vision for the future matches that of Dubai.
Earlier, the global e-commerce leader Amazon announced a major Middle East expansion drive by inking a landmark deal to acquire Souq.com, the region’s online retail and market place platform.
