Dubai Culture’s ’Reading Box’ Initiative Attracted High Number of School Students from the City
(4 April 2017)

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, has successfully concluded the ‘Reading Box’ initiative which began on the 20th March and ran until 2nd April under the theme ‘A generation reads. A civilisation rises’. The initiative welcomed people from various age groups and especially attracted a high level of participation from school students. Alongside the various sessions that took place at the ‘Reading Box’, additional activities were organised that focused on increasing and supporting the personal growth of students.

The huge number of students who visited the ‘Reading Box’ enjoyed various development programmes that helped them to grow individually and also made reading more fun and enjoyable. The engaging activities were led by educational trainers and included sessions such as ‘Spin Stories with Words’, ‘Educational Techniques to Solve Behavioural Problems and Develop Mental Abilities’, ‘Workshop Potion Happiness’, ‘Personal Analysis Session and Developing your Positive Self’, ‘The Truth of Happiness Workshop’, and a poetry night.

From across the region, the schools that participated included Gems Founders School, Gems Winchester School, Gems Westminster School, Gems Millennium School, Gems New Millennium School, Gems Willington School, Repton School, DESSM, Dubai English Speaking School, JESSM, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Indian High School, Delhi Public School, Horizon School and Sheffield School, in addition to children from Al Anwar Nursery.

The ‘Reading Box’ initiative was based in City Walk 2 and organised in support of the UAE’s National Reading Strategy, the National Month of Reading in March, and the Dubai Plan 2021 launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The second edition of the ‘Reading Box’ aimed to instil strong reading habits across all ages in Dubai’s communities, while also reflecting the philosophy of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed by emphasising the importance of positivity and the crucial role it plays in motivating accomplishments, high performance and success in all aspects of life.
