UAE Chairs The Preparatory Workshop For The World Radiocommunication Conference 2019
(5 December 2017)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), chaired the preparatory workshop for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 (WRC-2019), which was held recently at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The workshop was attended by more than 300 delegates from the 193 member states of the ITU, in addition to representatives of international and regional organizations, manufacturers and many of those concerned with the agenda items of the WRC-2019. Seven round-table meetings were held with the participation of chairmen of groups concerned with the agenda items of WRC-2019, as well as the chairmen and representatives of the regional groups representing the member states of the ITU.

In this respect, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “The participation of the UAE represented by the TRA constitutes a part of our ongoing efforts to dedicate the strong presence of the UAE in shaping the future of the global telecommunications sector. The constant coordination and communication with the ITU is part of our strategy to optimize the use of modern communication technologies in their various forms to support sustainable development efforts in all countries of the world, especially as the UAE heads the Arab Spectrum Management Group.”

Eng. Khalid Al Awadhi, Manager Broadcasting and Space Services at the TRA and Chairman of the Preparatory Meeting of WRC-2019, said: "This workshop has provided participants with the opportunity to exchange views and gain a better understanding of the most important issues and items on the agenda of the WRC-2019 and on the preliminary draft views and common positions of the various stakeholders."

Al Awadhi added: "This workshop is one of the means used by the ITU to continue sharing and exchanging information. The WRC-2019 agenda items are distributed at the beginning of the course to various working groups, which in turn communicate and exchange studies and views on the agenda items. The workshop contributes to providing a platform for all concerned to present different views and discuss obstacles faced by the study groups."
