Tejar Dubai, an initiative of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, recently organised a workshop to introduce aspiring entrepreneurs to design thinking, a solutions-focused concept designed to boost innovation and creativity within organisations.
The workshop, entitled "Innovation and Design Thinking", was hosted at the Chamber’s premises and covered the various stages of the design thinking process, as well as the key benefits to entrepreneurs who implement the concept.
Sharif Al Maghraby, Founder and Lead Coach at Being My Best, highlighted the importance of identifying solutions to problems through a design-based approach, and gave an overview how what participants can expect during the ideation, creative and prototype stages.
Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President of Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber and General Coordinator of Tejar Dubai, explained that the workshop provided useful knowledge and tools to young Emiratis who want to launch their own businesses. Tejar Dubai has held 7 training workshops since the beginning of 2017 which were attended by 175 participants.
"Dubai’s entrepreneurial eco-system is a major focus area of Dubai Chamber’s strategy and activities, and we remain committed to supporting the development of this sector by helping young entrepreneurs launch their own successful businesses and contribute toward the UAE’s economic development,” said Al Zaabi.
During the workshop, Al Maghraby highlighted the need for participants to understand the human-centred design process and its potential impact on society.
“By adopting this approach, you are accepting the belief that all problems, no matter how difficult, are all solvable. It is the people who face these challenges that are the source and inspiration for finding the right solutions,” said Al Maghraby.
Tejar Dubai is a specialised development programme designed to nurture and support aspiring Emirati entrepreneurs as they take their first steps into the business world. The programme comprises training sessions and workshops, networking, mentorship and funding opportunities.
The initiative supports the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which states that entrepreneurship is the shortest path to a brighter future.
