HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has honored the 1st batch of the Project Management Development Program graduates (Masharei), organized by the RTA in cooperation with the International Institute for Learning (IIL), one of the leading institutions specialized in project management training. The program aims to hone the skills and raise the capabilities of staff working at different levels of Corporate Project Management.
Al Tayer honoured the graduates at a ceremony held at RTA headquarters in the presence of a number of executives and directors, As many as 43 employees have successfully passed the program, and completed the 6 specialized training modules, namely directors’ & their deputies module, section managers module, project managers module, construction project managers module and promising project managers module.
Al Tayer said: "The program comes as part of RTA's efforts to improve the scientific and practical skills of employees, qualify the young national cadres, directors & project managers to assume the tasks in several projects, besides leveraging the efficiency of monitoring project portfolios and increasing the number of professional vocational certificate holders at the RTA. The program is also intended to establish an internal accreditation system in the form of a certificate issued by the RTA certifying the ability of the holder to manage different levels of projects and programs. The accreditation process may be generalized to include government institutions in the emirate of Dubai.”
Laila Faridoon, Executive Director of the Office of the RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, delivered a visual presentation on the objectives of the overall framework of Corporate Project Management. It covered developing an integrated project program for management, programs & project portfolios, compiling a knowledge base for project data, and maintaining continuous development to develop a full-fledged Corporate Project Management. The Corporate Project Management also supports project management governance, establishes and manages an effective community for those interested in project management at the RTA level, and highlights the RTA’s efforts in the global project management forums. It also encourages continuous development of skills and competencies of the RTA staff in project management, so that the RTA pioneers project management at the government institution level in the region.
She touched on one of the leading initiatives in spreading and sharing of project management knowledge i.e. RTA Project Management Forum. The Forum, which was launched in September 2013, had held 42 events until the end of 2016. Events included workshops for sharing knowledge and training expertise, review and discuss book summaries, and events for communication between Forum members.
The plan of the Project Management Forum 2017 covers holding 15 events in the form of lectures, workshops, and lessons learned from key ETA projects such as the Dubai Water Canal and Etihad Museum.
Membership in the Project Management Forum comprises three categories: platinum, gold and silver.
Members are assessed against specific benchmarks namely: the number of lectures and voluntarily workshops held together with their results, attendance and the active participation in events and volunteering initiatives circulated by RTA Project Management Office to members.
