Dubai Land Department (DLD) has added to its impressive track record with the successful conclusion of the 69th edition of the International Real Estate Federation's FIABCI World Real Estate Congress. The event took place in Dubai and the MENA region for the first time under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and ran from 27th April until 2nd May 2018. This year's theme was 'Happy Cities'.
1,500 Participants
During the congress, Dubai was recognised as 'The Land of Happiness', with DLD highlighting the emirate's happiness to more than 1,500 participants from more than 70 countries in line with the 'Happy Cities' theme. In parallel, a keynote session highlighted happiness as the ultimate goal of city planners and organisers, also exploring how this can be achieved through state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive services, green spaces and recreational areas.
The participants also discussed the important role that modern applications play in promoting happiness during the 'smart city' era. The experts and specialists in attendance agreed that Dubai is a global role model in the field of smart cities, particularly due to the emirate's efforts to spread happiness among all segments of society through advanced services.
His Excellency Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, commented: "Dubai has achieved this great success thanks to the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as the support we have received from our sister government entities and a wide range of sponsors and partners. This new achievement strengthens Dubai's excellent reputation as an organiser of global forums and a premier destination for hosting prestigious international conferences, exhibitions and events."
Bin Mejren added: "During the congress, we showed the international community that Dubai is an embodiment of the 'Happy Cities' concept. Our emirate has made unprecedented achievements in terms of the happiness of residents through the modernisation of infrastructure and the development of legislative structure. This has supported investors and the wider population, leading to a general level of contentment that has not been achieved elsewhere. Governments and developers play a crucial role in encouraging individuals to support the government's efforts to make society happy, and this was also highlighted at the congress."
Delighting Guests
Happiness was the focus of various activities organised by DLD in key Dubai locations from 27th April to 2nd May. The welcome dinner was held at Atlantis' Asateer Tent, FIABCI's Prix D'Excellence Awards ceremony was held at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, and the farewell dinner was held in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel's Al Safina Ballroom.
During the farewell dinner, His Excellency Engineer Marwan bin Ghalita, CEO of the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) — the regulatory arm of DLD — delivered the opening speech and said: "Today, we celebrate the success of the 69th edition of the International Real Estate Federation's FIABCI World Real Estate Congress, where we saw happiness in the eyes of all. Today, more than 200 nationalities are living happily in Dubai and contributing to the growth of our country, which is all thanks to our wise leadership."
Bin Ghalita thanked the FIABCI World President Farook Mahmoud for his outstanding contributions and vision, as well as the international delegates, strategic partners and various sponsors for their efforts to make the conference a success. He also wished Russia great success in hosting the upcoming 70th edition of FIABCI, which will revolve around a 'Blockchain' theme.
Esam Hasan Saleh, Executive Director of Business Development and Property Management at Jumeirah Golf Estates, added: "We would like to thank DLD for organising and hosting FIABCI Dubai 2018. We are honoured to have worked with the department to develop the real estate sector in response to our wise leadership's directives to spread happiness and make Dubai a global centre for attracting investments from all over the world."
At the end of the conference, DLD handed over the official flag of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) to Gocha Buachidze, Consul General of the Russian Federation, as Russia will be the host country of the FIABCI World Real Estate Congress 2019.
Assen Makedonov, the new World President of FIABCI 2018 -2019, praised DLD's role in ensuring the success of the current edition, and pointed out that through the concerted efforts of all, we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming editions of FIABCI. He then received the torch from FIABCI President 2017-2018 Farook Mahmoud.
