As part of its strategy of developing engineering work in the emirate of Dubai and improving the efficiency of engineers, Dubai Municipality has launched the 'Madmoon' initiative, which allows engineers to register individually in the Dubai Register of Engineering Practitioners and qualify for the test instead of going through an existing licence of engineering offices and contracting companies.
Layali Abdulrahman Al Mulla, Director of the Buildings Department in Dubai Municipality, said that the committee for registering and licencing the profession of engineering consultants and contractors in the emirate of Dubai has been considering the applications for registration of engineers in the Register of Engineering Practitioners, in addition to applications for licencing and qualifying engineering consultancy offices from new local contracting companies and branches of foreign companies in the emirate. The committee has been classifying them according to the specific regulations and categories.
Aida Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Head of the Consultants and Contractors Qualification Section in the Buildings Department, said that the period of completion of transactions has now been reduced to three working days only through packages of improvement procedures based on the licencing and qualification requirements and automation of operations.
As for the branches of companies in other emirates, the procedures and requirements for a licence to open offices in the emirate have been reduced. To facilitate the services of the customers and reduce the procedures, consultants and contractors were allowed to extend their renewal in the municipality to two years instead of one year after ensuring the necessary technical requirements during this period and granting them a period to adjust their conditions, Al Harmoudi added.
