The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held its annual retreat in the presence of its Director General H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, the Director General’s deputies for various sectors, directors of departments and sections, and all TRA employees, at the St. Regis Hotel in Dubai.
H.E. Al Mansoori delivered the welcoming speech of the retreat. He then called on all the participating working groups to engage in interactive discussions to develop a roadmap for TRA business and initiatives for 2018. In his introductory speech, H.E. Al Mansoori praised the highlights of TRA achievements, and the team spirit prevailed over a year of serious, sincere and dedicated work to achieve the directives of the wise leadership. He said: “I am extremely proud of the rapid and effective success in enhancing the country’s leading position in the ICTsector at the local and global levels. I hope to continue the journey towards an “excellent” future with innovative plans and mechanisms to accomplish tasks away from routine, and exceed expectations in initiatives and projects that are highly distinguished, innovative, creative and effective”.
The retreat consisted of five different sessions focusing on TRA’s future shaping and Artificial Intelligence, in addition to the establishment of a voluntary program in TRA, discussing plans and mechanisms for employees’ happiness, and human resources related topics. Moreover, a Youth Circle was held focusing on youth participation in TRA decisions and plans. In addition to holding an Excellence Circle focusing on raising the results of the institutional performance in the enablers, topics of financial and administrative sustainability, activating the role of the team of expenses rationalization and revenue increase, and raising the level of institutional performance in smart government enablers.
On the following day, the TRA held its annual gathering in the presence of all of the employees. H.E. Al Mansoori delivered a general speech addressing six topics including international developments, TRA’s role in coming phases, in addition to issues such as the 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and others. H.E. then proposed a series of question to be considered and addressed during the next stages, in preparation of the digital future in which the telecommunications infrastructure is crucial.
H.E. Al Mansoori added: “TRA retreat this year is exceptionally important, as it comes at a stage of transition to Artificial Intelligence and understanding of concepts of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to enhance the principle of sustainability. And since these concepts are mostly based on ICT infrastructure, the TRA has to reflect carefully on the compatibility of its plans and programs to serve digital transformations.”
H.E. Al Mansoori added: “We in the UAE work under the guidance of our wise leadership to create a bright future for our society; a future that is based on happiness, well-being and sustainability. TRA should be in the forefront of work and performance development, in line with the local and international developments. Hence, the importance of such meetings, in which everyone participates, and everyone is responsible for the implementation of its outcomes, as we all work for one goal, namely the elevation of our country and the service of our society. TRA also has a global role to play in serving the United Nations development goal, which opens up new horizons for us to reflect on the global position of our beloved country through the ICT sector.”
The retreat was concluded by holding the employees annual gathering, in which the TRA future shaping 2030 document has been revealed, as well as presenting the retreat outcomes (accelerators) of 2017. The activities of the gathering also varied, including competitions and honoring employees, departments and projects.
