HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), stressed that women in the UAE are privileged by unremitting support of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates. Our leadership has empowered women to take an active role in building the community and country, and accorded them utmost care to practice their active role in supporting the resurgence of the UAE, noted Al Tayer.
In a speech delivered in an event held by the RTA marking the International Woman Day (IWD), celebrated on March 8th each year, Al Tayer congratulated Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (Mother of the UAE). He also congratulated RTA employees on the advent of the anniversary, adding that celebrating the IWD offered a chance to spotlight women achievements at various social, political and economic levels.
"Based on the directives of our wise leadership, the RTA has accorded paramount attention to women and is keen to pave the way for them to take up key leading positions and contribute to RTA’s success and development drive side by side with men. The total number of the female employees at the RTA has exceeded 700, constituting 21% of the total number of employees. The percentage of the female employees taking leading & specialized positions has now topped 35%.
“Since inception, the RTA has been keen to provide women with a suitable work environment by establishing a women committee to activate women’s role at the RTA’s and the community, besides conducting courses, seminars for women in various fields, and supporting the RTA’s female employees. The RTA also established a special nursery for kids of RTA’s female employees and a health club equipped with sports equipment to encourage women to exercise,” he added.
At the end of the ceremony, Al Tayer awarded talented female employees who had volunteered in RTA’s events, and then cut a cake and posed for photos
The Women Committee at the RTA announced a free breast cancer screening initiative for RTA’s female employees twice a year in cooperation with the International Modern Hospital. A specialised psychologist will address female employees to ease their psychological pressure and psychological disorders that may hinder their performance by holding free head-to-head sessions as per scheduled appointments made at the headquarters of the Women's Committee in collaboration with Prime Hospital.
