Attendees at the Media Innovation Lab event included officials from some of Dubai’s leading government organisations.
Al Ali said that Expo 2020 will seek to leave a transformational legacy not only in Dubai and the UAE, but also the wider region along several dimensions including economic, social, cultural, reputational, innovation and youth. He recalled that the first ever World Expo held in London in 1851 left an enduring legacy, much of which is still evident today. From a reputational perspective, one of Expo 2020’s key aims is to ensure the event is recognized globally for having maintained high standards in every aspect of its organisation.
The Expo is considered to be one of the largest global events in terms of economic and cultural impact along with the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Holding the Expo gives the host country an opportunity to track the impact it has on its GDP, Al Ali said.
Expo 2020 seeks to ensure very high benchmarks of operational efficiency. The Expo site in Dubai South District was carefully chosen to ensure the best possible operational and logistical efficiencies for participants. The Dubai Expo 2020 site has been designed to be easily accessible for all people.
Al Ali said Expo 2020 Dubai is targeting 25 million visits, out of which 70% are international. This compares to the 21 million registered at Milan Expo 2015.
Al Ali said that the Expo is an opportunity to celebrate all of the UAE’s existing achievements and future strategic initiatives and showcase the country’s strong economy.
Expo 2020 will have many firsts to its credit. For the first time in the history of the Expo, the Dubai event will offer the concept of ‘One Country One Pavilion’ where all participating countries will have their own pavilion.
He also said that one of the overarching focuses of Expo2020 will be the youth. The event will be encouraging the views and ideas of the youth to enhance engagement with them. Expo2020 will also be a celebration of the culture not only of the UAE and the region but also of the other cultures that are part of the global event.
Manal AlBayat, Vice President of Engagement for Expo 2020 said that the event has five key communication objectives, which include fostering national ownership by involving all residents in a successful Expo; maximizing visits; developing an inclusive Expo by enhancing global participation at all levels; promoting global engagement by stimulating a global debate around the Expo 2020 theme and sub-themes; and enhancing the international positioning of the event.
Senior Manager of Strategic Communications at Government of Dubai Media Office Noora Al Mansoori said: “We are delighted to host the Expo 2020 organising team at our latest Media Innovation Lab event. Expo 2020 is a mega global event that will further transform the global profile of both Dubai and the UAE. Through the Media Innovation Lab, we seek to showcase the UAE’s innovative best practices and achievements to further inspire a dynamic culture of creativity, innovation and excellence.”
