A delegation from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently visited Seoul, South Korea to review the city’s experience in transport & mobility, planning & design models used to match the needs of mass transit systems, and the best standards adopted in managing these systems.
RTA’s delegation included Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Member of the Board of Executive Directors, Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of Licensing Agency, and Dr. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation, in addition to five relevant directors and other concerned individuals.
“The visit reflects RTA’s keenness to examine the practices of cities with vast & renowned experience in mass transit systems. As Dubai has a state-of-the-art mass transit network, RTA has always been seeking to benefit from such expertise to enhance the innovation and improvement of relevant RTA’s projects. The delegation met Mr. Kang-Hyun, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Lin Fi Lon, Mayor of Seoul City and Mr. Shen Young-Mok, Deputy Mayor of Seoul City for Transportation. A broad meeting including a visual presentation held to spotlight Seoul Government Vision for Public Transport 2030. The vision envisages the building of an efficient rail-focused transit system, nurturing an environment conducive to the use of bicycles, diffusing the culture of car-pooling & mass transport, reducing non-productive mobility, using environment-friendly facilities, and providing seamless traffic movement among others.
“The delegation visited Control Centers TOPIS in Seoul, which are responsible for monitoring of the performance of public transport and metro. It was acquainted with the tasks of these centers and how they are used in controlling the traffic movement in general in a way ensuring the safety of users & pedestrians. The delegation was also introduced to the latest systems in use to ensure the high efficient performance of these functions,” continued Al Mulla.
“The visit concluded to positive results enriching RTA’s experiences in these fields, particularly as Seoul boasts of a proven and rich record in mass transit systems, which have become a challenge in contemporary life. RTA is therefore prompted to review the prominent experiences in this regard in an effort to realize its vision of providing Safe & Smooth Transport for All,” added Al Mulla.
