RTA holds Reading Contest to broaden employees’ intellectual faculties
(7 April 2016)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has organized a reading contest to encourage employees to read useful books and diffuse the culture of knowledge. The step comes in line with the UAE initiative dedicating 2016 as a Year of Reading, besides promoting the "Reading Challenge" initiative launched by the Dubai Government.

Kawthar Kazim, Executive Director of Human Resources and Development, RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, said: “The Human Resources and Development Department had launched this contest to encourage employees to read valuable books, and make synopsis for distribution as a leaflet or annex, and winners would be offered a variety of prizes. The contest also aims to highlight contributions made via the intranet to generalize the benefit. This would contribute significantly to creating positive & competitive atmosphere among employees to read various books, broaden their intellectual and improve their awareness, besides realizing the leadership’s vision of ensuring that all institutions and entities are literate.”

“Reading develops innovation and creative ideas that benefit readers and community members as it raises their awareness about the contemporary local and international issues, familiarizes them with discussion methods, sharing knowledge & information to establish a better society.”

“RTA is very keen on launching a variety of initiatives that contribute to encouraging employees and community members to read. The initiatives launched so far include the “Read More” and “Knowledge Chair,” which is a circular wooden chair provided in several customer service centers, and contains a superb package of the latest editions in various disciplines. Another initiative is the Public Transport Library in the Emirates and First Gulf Bank metro stations, where metro users can borrow books and return them upon completion. The continuity of such initiatives would contribute significantly to making Dubai a pioneer and leader in knowledge,” concluded Kawthar Kazim.
