Dubai Land Department (DLD) was recently awarded with ISO 31000:2009 at Second Internal Audit Government Forum. The event also saw the launch of the innovative Smart Risk Management app – designed for devices including smartphones and tablet computers.
The ISO certification recognises DLD’s success in applying global standards in risk management, set by the International Organization for Standardization and Metrology in the field of risk management.
The award was received by Director General of DLD, HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren and it was presented by the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company SGS Gulf Limited, following its extensive and through audit of DLD.
Director General of DLD, HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren said of the award, “The internal auditing at Dubai Land Department is playing a very significant role in the operations. In the past few years DLD has gained seven ISO Global Certificates including ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System); ISO Global Certificate ISO 20000-1:2011 (Service Management System Requirements); and OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health and Safety), a certificate of environmental regulations and occupational health and safety.”
The aim of the Second Internal Audit Government Forum was to enhance the business community’s knowledge of the essential role internal auditing plays in strong organizational governance, internal control, and effective risk management. The forum provided an opportunity to exchange best practices in administrative and financial control and corporate governance fields. It was the perfect platform to identify new global and technological trends.
The smart system launched during the forum is a state-of-the-art app designed to facilitate risk management, which is available to all levels of management, to measure operational, strategic and procedural decisions. This is facilitated though a platform where users can create closed private and open public chat sessions for discussions of risk management between DLD employees and key stakeholders. It also features a dashboard tailored to each DLD department, where graphics can be viewed of risk indicators. A core feature is a warning notification which informs the department of any potential risk. This assists in speeding up reactions and decision-making.
Bin Mejren added: "The internal audit system at DLD represents a fully integrated sector, where audits are provided through all the financial information and data information, and we also audit DLD procedures and smart services. In addition, we launched the audit system for Registration Trustees offices, bringing a smart system where we can audit all real estate transactions carried out at the offices of registrars, including transactions and sales in Dubai's real estate market
The auditing system is very important and we have developed a fully smart integrated system for Dubai Land Department. This audits every transactional procedure that happens inside DLD for affiliates such as registration trustees offices. This essentially provides a third audit in this system. As government of the UAE and the Emirate of Dubai gears the city towards becoming the smartest city it becomes ever more crucial to, in the near future, audit such smart services. This will be the future of auditing. "
The forum concluded with HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land Department handing Mr. Khaled Halyan, CEO of Group Internal Audit and Risk Assessment (GIARA) of Dubai Aviation City Corporation the shield for the third Internal Audit Government Forum to be held in the month of Internal Audit May 2017.
